Adobe Reader Speed Launcher keeps exiting

Adobe / Reader

Specs: Windows Vista, 4GB
I have the latest version of Adobe Reader and use it regularly to read PDF files. Today I noticed quite often PDF files take ages to open (about 30 seconds after clicking). I noticed that the Speed Launcher, Reader_sl.exe, keeps terminating on its own accord. This is the process that normally runs in the background and ensures that PDF files open quickly. When that process exits, PDF files open slowly. Has anyone else noticed this? The only recent change I can think of is that I applied the latest Microsoft update.

Have you checked the configuration of your start ups:

1. Start
2. Run
3. Type in msconfig
4. Click OK
5. Click the Startup Tab
Make sure Reader_sl is checked

Yes, it is. It runs at startup, but doesn't seem to stay running for very long. Even if I run it manually, it can be seen in Task Manager for a little while and then it goes away again.

I had a few problems with the latest version when it was first released, but nothing lately.

Best I can offer is to make sure you have the latest updates and if that does not work try a reinstall.
