Won't connect to Wireless 3 feet router

June 14, 2010 at 08:06:05
Specs: Windows 7
My ACER Travelmate 8471 using an Intel(R)Wifi 5100 AGN Network Adapter won't connect to my wireless router unless the pc is within 3 feet of the router. I have two other pc's that maintain their connection from the 15 feet my desk is from the router, but this laptop won't. Any suggestions.

How high is your antenna off the ground? Sounds like it is too high.

My router is about 4.5 feet off the ground, but as I indicated two other laptops connect and maintain connections just fine.

Do you know how to access the network card inside the laptop (ACER Travelmate 8471) to see if the antenna's from the card are solidly connected?

No - That seems a bit extreme and could eliminate any future warranty claims I would think.

I would contact Acer tech support and present them with your issue. Perhaps there is a update that fixes it or you need to RMA the laptop to get it fixed.
