Wireless routers mstr and slv w/ media serve

Specs: Windows Vista

I have a large house with the current wireless router in the garage on main level (where my cable co. installed it). House is 3 levels with office in basement has three printers currently hard wired into a usb hub. Media room is also in basement w/ PS3. Would ike to install a 1 TB media server as well as hook printers up wireless. Thinking is to put an updated wireless router in garage and another as a slave in basement next to printers Hard wire printers and media server to it from there away from the elements in garage. Head is spinning after reading so much garble. Anyone with good feedback on products and feasability is welcome. Thanks in advance.

The best and most reliable performance is wired. So I would
prefer installing wire for the most of the runs,

What you need is a wireless access point / router that supports "Wireless Bridging" to act as your 'slave' router.
Lots of good info on the web on how to do this but the key things to remember is turn off DHCP on the second / bridging router (or access point) and that the bridging mode basically takes the place of an ethernet cable.
