Wireless router will not work!!!!

February 20, 2011 at 20:04:26
Specs: Windows XP
I have a world wide packets modem and T1 internet. I need the Ethernet cable to be plugged into the back of my desktop, so I bought a wireless router so I can use my laptop from anywhere in the house. Only problem is, IT WILL NOT connect. I have followed the directions, done the set-up a hundred times, yet it still wont work. My laptop says its connected to the router, that it has excellent signal, but a yellow ! shows up on it and the internet doesn't actually work. Can someone please help me, I feel like a complete idiot.

sounds confusing !!!!

1. Where is your T1 line installed?
2. First you need to connect desktop computer using the Ethernet cable and see if you can browse internet. if it works then configure the wireless.

Where is the yellow exclamation mark (!) shown?
If it's shown in the systray, what message is shown, when you only put the cursor over the exclamation mark?

Is the laptop configured with a static ip address, so that you may run into an ip address conflict?
In that case, first try to configure your laptop to use DHCP, to get ip address automatically.
