Solved Wireless Repeater Experience Anyone?

Has anyone any experience using a wireless repeater?

Our WiFi network sucks and we can't change the router (ISP doesn't let us use anything other then their Virgin one). But it doesn't do our range so we need to improve it to get the wifi to the computer.

We've had a few suggestions. I've been considering getting a second line put in so we can put in a second router but that's pretty expensive. Then again I've found WiFi repeaters which look pretty good. Apparently they double the signal which would probably cover the range. But are they reliable enough or do they slow the internet speed to a crawl?

I've never used a repeater before would love to hear from someone who has used one before. Are they worth it, do they work?

Where is your wireless router located? It should be in a central location, as high as possible, not surrounded by other equipment, furniture, etc. A repeater will increase the range, but performance will suffer somewhat due to the receiving/rebroadcasting of the signal.
