wireless printer won't connect to router

May 21, 2011 at 06:06:43
Specs: Windows XP
wireless printer won't connect to router - I have the WEP and WPA PSK keys and can connect through either with my printer, but I get a connection error every time. Should I be trying the password that I connected to the router with my laptop?

You have to use the SSID of your wireless network and the correct encryption type and key, to authenticate the printer to your wireless network, just like you do with your laptop.

The password,in conjunction with a username, mostly "admin", you are talking about, is for logging in to the routers configuration web interface.

Yes, have gone through locating the ssid, then typing in the WPA PSK then trying to connect (same process as previous flat) but then connecting failure.

Previous router was BT, this one is AOL ~ don't know if that makes a difference. Have treble checked I'm typing in the right key...just don't know what else to try.

PS I meant the password that I used to connect to the wireless network with my laptop, not my admin password for the computer ... sorry for the confusion!

Is the encryption type the same at both, router and printer?
You may have to read the manual of the printer on what to choose, when the router uses WPA-PSK, WPA, WPA2 or WEB.
