Wireless pc can see network, but wont connect

June 14, 2011 at 21:24:44
Specs: Windows XP
Using linksys router WRT54Gv7 - I've got my network up an running and all my devices (wired computer, wireless PS3, wireless smartphone, etc..) can connect to the network except for one of my wireless computers. I've set the TCP/IP to obtain IP automatically and using the correct PPPOE username/pass I try to connect, but it never works. I'm out of ideas on this one. I would really appreciate the help. thanks

You should not need a PPPOE user name & Pwd in the wireless client system. Only the appropriate wireless encryption key or passphrase. What kind of wireless encryption do you use? WEP or WPA ?

Yep, PPPOE username/pass should be set on wireless router, not on client computer. Also you could try to configure IP address and other network settings manually on computer, see whether it helps.

If you want more clues, check out this wireless network troubleshooting tips article.

Hope this helps.

I disabled the wireless encryption for the time being so I could rule that out as to why im not connecting. Sorry for the confusion

I used the PPOE username/pass in my routers GUI and my modems in bridge mode.

Also I tried typing in a manual IP address on the problem PC, but it still didnt work. :(

Any other advice greatly appreciated.

Scan this computer by using antivirus/anti-malware program with latest signature, just to make sure no worm/virus infection.

If you have done everything correctly but still not working, probably it's due to faulty winsock catalog, then probably could use winsockfix to reset it, see if it works.

Hope this helps.
