Microsoft Wireless network adapter for x...

Specs: Windows XP, AMD Turion 64 X2
I have a Gateway Laptop running Windows XP Media edition with an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor.
The laptop overheated and the wireless adapter (Realtek) would no longer aquire an IP address after connecting to the network.
So, I purchased another adapter (Broadcom) and this one is doing the exact same thing!
It says that it is connect with excellent signal strength, but after not being able to go onto the internet I am forced to hit the repair button.
It says that it is disabling the device, enabling the device, connecting to the nework and aquiring an IP address, that is where it stalls out and sits until it faults out!
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Does the wireless router require a security key (wep code) or WPA, WPA2 pass phrase??? Make sure you have the right kind of encryption set TKIP or AES. the adapter properties must match the routers.
