No the speed isn't normal.
I guess, the Sitecom 300n USB dongle's 300n mode isn't compatible to the Netgear GGND3300 Routers 300n mode.

But in 802.11g mode, it should take max 3 to 5 minutes, to transfer 700 mb file.

You should really try plugging your netbook directly into your router with a network cable. USB and wireless are both slow and do not compared to a direct wired solution.

Again, for this you'll really want a wired solution. If you try to stream video over a wireless connection (worse yet, one including a USB wireless dongle) you'll regret it.

To get the best wireless speed, it's always a good idea, to have router and wireless network card or wireless dongle from the same manufacturer. Otherwise, you're running in some incompatibilities.

For streaming video, Curt R is right.
Best is, to connect the mini pc to the router by wire.
But depending on how many computers are connected to watch videos simultaniously, it will also work wirelessly.

thanks again. i would like to stream to the new foxconn nt330i mini pc i've ordered, but if it doesn't work well enough i'll try to wire.

incidentally, i found that the my book has an 'online' copy manager program and it seems to be alot faster when i usb my old ext hdd direct to it (33gb in 45mins!) pity i can't just drag n drop through files and folders as quickly but hey ho.

once again i really appreciate your's and curt r's input and the speed in which you replied. i'll be recommending this website to my friends and colleagues!
