Wireless N router always runs at G speed

December 4, 2011 at 14:39:38
Specs: Windows 7, Athlon 2-core 2.3GHz
My D-LINK DIR-628 Wireless N router always runs at G speed. I have two computers on it, each with a Wireless N USB adapter. Yet the most I can get is 54 mbps speed. Could it be an Android phone accessing the wi-fi and slowing everything else down? What speed can a My-Touch 4G run at? Maybe that is not the cause anyway... I am stumped.

Have you checked that the router is actually set up to use wireless N mode in the D-Link configuration manager?

Or it may be that the wireless N USB adapters need to be made by D-Link as well.

The adapters are made by D-link. If I try ANYthing other than WEP mode and ALL SPEEDS allowed (not just Wireless N) then it will NOT ocnnect to any of the two USB wireless adapters (DWA-125) - I had to give up and go back to WIreless G and WEP mode. It only does Wireless N idf you use WPA-2 for your security mode and that always fails. This D-link stuff is junk. Don't buy it!

From the sounds of it, there must be something wrong with your router.

If it were me, I'd check for newer firmware for the router. If there is newer, I would first reset the router to factory defaults and thne I'd download and apply the newer firmare to the router. Then I'd reconfigure the router and see if it didn't work properly then.

I am the captain of my soul.
