Solved Wireless log shown upload which I never did

October 26, 2012 at 05:49:27
Specs: Windows 7
My internet usage has been increased 100% since last two months. I reviewed the internet usage and I found that upload is in the most of cases higher than download and we never upload information. My kids usually watch movies but they never upload information. I changed the router and wireless password three days ago but the usage is almost the same. Is it a security bridge?

So it's most likely, that one of your computers is infected by a virus or trojan.
Some trojans or viruses do upload things in background and the user did not recognize it.

I suggest, to start only one computer at a time and watch the routers LEDs for activity, while you do nothing on the computer.

As mentioned, do this one by one and you should be able, to figure out, which computer causes the upload.

When found the culprit, use taskmanager to figure out, which process the highest cpu utilization. If you can't figure the process, disconnecting the computer from the internet might help, cause such trojans or viruses will try harder to connect to the internet, which causes higher cpu utilization.

Don't forget you can open Task Manager and click on the "networking" tab to see network usage statistics. I would open it on all your connected computers and leave it run for an hour or two and then compare usage.

This could help isolate which computer is the culprit.

Once you've found the offender, try an online antivirus scan to see if you can't remove the trojan/virus. I like Trend Micro's "housecall". It seems to perform well.

I found that Hamachi was using the network even thought nobody was using it. I uninstalled it and now it looks good. Hamachi was used by my son to connect with other player playing Minecraft. Anyway I used the antivirus scan and my computer is clean. Thanks both for your useful answers
