Wireless connection keeps dying!

October 24, 2011 at 08:35:16
Specs: Windows XP
I have a Sony Viao. For a couple of months now, the wireless connection keeps dropping off and it says there are not available networks. Sometimes, doing "trouble shooting" reset the wireless adopter and I get connection back. Other times, I have to restart the computer completely to resolve the problem. Recently, this happens almost every half hour - it is becoming a real pain. Can someone help? I am not computer savy so please talk down to me.

The trouble you are facing may be caused by interferences from other wireless sources. By default routers/adapters broadcast via channel 6 on the wifi bandwidth and that may suffer interferences dropping connection. Try to set on your adapter channel 2 or 11 as the preferred one, i.e. at the edges of bandwidth so rarely used.

Stated this solved many people's troubles the one way to see if it applies to you is to try. How depends on your router/adapter; read its handbook or explore it online page/menu. I have a router and this is done manipulating its main settings via Browser at the standard address 198.162.1.1, but as I said it is related to your device. Anyway it is a basic setting and you have to do nothing else on your computer, just to restart after the setting on the adapter is performed.
