Wireless adapter, wireless router, or both??

Belkin Wireless g usb network adapter

Specs: Windows Vista
I just recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 and a Belkin
G usb adapter. I wanted to know if I need to buy a
wireless router or would the adapter work by itself. The
reason I ask is because I'm going to be going to college
and I won't carry the router where ever I go. So could I
only use the adapter or do I need a router too??

If the collage has its own wireless network which most do, then you dont need a router. The USB adaptor will be enough.

You would only need a wireless router if you wanted to set up you own wireless network at home for instance.

Thanks!!! Also, when I'm at home or outside for instance, and
I'm trying to get a network connection should I use my Belkin
usb adapter because so far I'm not getting anything.

The USB adaptor is used for connecting to any wireless access point. You will only connect if you are withing range of a wireless network.

Bear in mind the the maxium range of a wireless acces point is only 100 meters and that is under ideal conditions. Often it is a lot less.
