Wired interenet slowed down, wireless fine

Specs: Windows 7
My wired internet slowed way down within the last few days and I have no idea why. Wireless is still working fine (blazing speeds on Comcast). The problem is not with my desktop computer. If I switch the ethernet cable to my laptop (and turn off wireless), it slows way down as well. I ran some speed tests and the wireless is running about 15 times faster.

I haven't made any changes to software or hardware recently. There was a power outage during the heat wave a a week ago. Could that have caused it?

I have a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz (54 Mbps) router. I have owned the router for several years. Do I just need a new router? Can just the ethernet break on a router?

Yes especially on linksys's which fail for a number of reasons. Heat wave most likely pushed it over the edge.

Thanks for the response.

I also just tried plugging directly into the modem and and it worked perfectly. Looks like I will be in the market for a new router.
