Solved Wired desktop necessary w/all laptop network?

Specs: Macintosh
I currently have my ISP-supplied modem wired to both my router and an old, old desktop. Can I run this network without using a desktop ethernet connection & throw away the desktop?

✔ Best Answer
if you shut down the pc do you still get internet thru the router?

only device connected to the modem should be the router.

Unless your old pc is creating a pppoe connection.
It should be the router doing this.

if you can still connect thru the router when the pc is off this is not a issue. Just recycle the old pc.

Yes, I have internet coverage when desktop is unplugged so I will recycle old desktop.

I assume I can temporarily connect a laptop with ethernet cable at some point if I need to change routers or reconfigure, yes?

In any event, thanks for your quick response.
