Specs: Windows XP
My daughter got a virus off Facebook last weekend - I have gotten rid of almost all of it - but it disabled my windows firewall and I cannot get it back. I have tried the NETSH FIREWALL RESET and changing the registry. When I try to open the windows firewall, I get the following error -
---------------------------
Windows Firewall
---------------------------
Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?
---------------------------
Yes No
---------------------------
If I click Yes - I get
---------------------------
Windows Firewall
---------------------------
Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
I can't find anything on the Windows site other than the registry change.
Any ideas on how I can get my firewall back?

Check whether the services are set to disabled by clicking Start / Run then type services.msc

Set the startup type to automatic for these two services and try to start them.

Thanks for your post - I did what you said, and it was already set to automatic. In the corner, it said "start this service" and I clicked that - below is the error response I recieved.
---------------------------
Services
---------------------------
Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer.

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

---------------------------
OK

Any ideas what I do now?

In the event viewer, doubleclick the error to see, which file is missing or, use the event ID to figure out whats wrong, at the microsoft support page.
