this one took me for a ride. my PC was running fine one minute then when I tried to get on the internet it wouldn't connect. I got the message "windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary dns server)". I unplugged my ethernet cable from my pc to my laptop and was able to connet to the net, all the wireless devices (Ipod, Ipad smartphone etc..) had no problem connecting to the net. for 2 days I searched for a solution. I did everything that was suggested on the different websites. none worked. one website suggested that I change my preferred ip adress to 8.8.8.8 and alternate to 8.8.4.4 (in Ipv4) I figured what do I have to lose and bingo it worked. I still don't know what happened any info would be good. Now my problem is my laptop won't connect to the net wirelessly all the other devices are fine. any suggestions would be helpful. forgot to mention while in safe mode I was able to conncet to the net (which confused me even more)

"while in safe mode I was able to conncet to the net (which confused me even more)"

That usually means that a third-party driver or application is conflicting with your wireless driver on the laptop when Windows is running in normal mode.

It could be a device driver, or an application which installs a virtual driver such as a third-party firewall, antivirus software, or third-party CD/DVD burning software.

@Phil22 That's what I thought. But once I put in new dns (8.8.8.8) Internet worked fine
