Have you tried re-installing the drivers (using those from Dell's site)?

The pc was an Asus. I chatted with 4 different agents. Their final diagnosis was to reinstall win 7. So, I suppose I will. vandal67

Ah... I presumed Dell from your header specs. I would try drivers first from ASUS site. If that doesn’t work, try a repair installation - not a full re-install. Possibly even the SFC routine might be all that’s needed? If you opt for repair or full re-install... then first safeguard all your personal files; copy them to external storage (not a flash drive). Verify the copies are truly accessible before proceeding further. Edited per trvlr to correct a couple of typos... message edited by trvlr
