I've been using a Linksys WRT-54G router and adapter since it came out years ago. I use an FM transmitter to rebroadcast Sirius to all the radios in the house. The adapter on my computer that is a long way from the modem/router broke recently, I explained this to a salesperson and explained that I wanted to get a really good adapter in hopes of greatly reducing the number of lost connections.
He told me that this is really a result of the router and any adapter card should be fine. I purchased one for about $25.
It seem that the time it takes to transfer a file from one computer to another has increased significantly. Also, and most importantly, it seems that I'm receiving far more "buffering" interruptions where I'll lost audio from a few seconds to maybe a minute or more. I'm not sue if I'm suffering more lost connections than before but I might be.
Was the sales person correct or could I have more success with a higher quality adapter card?
Thanks for your help.
How long is a long way from the router? Are they on the same floor? How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.
It's one floor down and about 50 feet away.
Why can't you run a cat5 cable to it? How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.
I don't have the skills to do it and make it look acceptable. Also, we plan on selling the house shortly, so it wouldn't make sense to invest in a professional job. BTW, if a new, higher quality adapter wouldn't help would a more recent version of a router be worth the investment to meet my needs.
I tend to agree with the sales person. I don't know that it would help but if you want to take a chance, go ahead. How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.
