Is it necessary for the browser to use a Proxy? What if you disable that?

You have an infection which has put a proxy setting in your browser, but you don't use a proxy!
If you use internet explorer, click tools, internet options, connection tab, go to the bottom "Lan settings" and remove all the check marks, particularly the proxy. Once remove you should be able to go online. Download Malwarebytes, install, (you can say no to the free trial), and let it run a scan and remove what it finds. When finished restart the computer (malwarebytes may do this), and go back and see if the proxy is there again, if it is post back, some these are more ignorant than others. the link to malwarebytes is below.

To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!
