Why does Wifi workt on laptops fine but not on phones

February 16, 2017 at 20:43:30
Specs: Windows 64
I have a Belkin n300 wireless router set up in my sleepout. The wifi works 100% fine on all laptops and pcs. However, when connected to phones the connection is very bad and although the signal strength is full the wifi cuts in and out and mostly just does not work even though it is connected. Mostly connection is fine once first connected for a few minutes and then stops working. (happens on all phones regardless of OS) Not sure what the cause of this is and what must be done to fix it.

A shot in the dark, are these iPhones that are having sketchy wifi connection problems? If so have you looked at wifi assist settings?

If wifi assist is enabled it could be causing the phone to switch sporadically between wifi and mobile data. Try switching it off to see if there is an improvement.

Edit: I'm not sure if there is an equivalent for android or Windows phones. Could be worth looking into though.

I have never had good luck with Belkin routers and I've seen lots of posts that mirror my sentiments. Not to mention that's a pretty cheap model too.

I would suggest spending a little money and get yourself something made by one of the better manufactures such as D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, or Asus.

No nothing to do with the phones unfortunately. Occurs on different phones not just iPhones. Must have something to do with the router but not sure what I need to change to fix the problem
