Specs: HP and mac air, 3 meg & 4 meg
Hi all

I am in need of a new router. My old router drops out maybe 4 times a week sometimes all in one day. I have two computers a HP and a Mac air.
I subscribe to COX and use 5mb/s which is OJ for what I do. I'm thinking of buying a Net gear router but from the reviews I have read it appears even the new units have problems and the customer service is poor.
Can anyone suggest a brand and model to purchase.

I generally recommend reading a number of published reviews from those who make it their business to test everything new that comes out. Narrow it down to 3 or 4 top contenders. Then read the customer reviews on sites like Newegg (and others that sell many different brands). Eliminate any who have many complaints, especially multiples of the same or similar issues.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi
Thanks for the info. I usually go on Amazon and best buy and check the reviews but almost every router has many negative comments.
From your experience with routers which do you prefer.

I was leaning towards Linksys but my understanding is that they were taken over by another company. It looks like the net gear N750 has the least amount of complaints and has a lot of bang for the bucks.

in the past i used a Draytek router and found it was probably one of the best routers iv ever used. Unfortunatly i gave it to my brother when i moved and have never bought another, yet, if i do decide to buy another it would most likely be a Draytek, look them up, they are not cheap. In the last few years iv noticed my company has deployed them on the various sites we have around London.

If this is for home use, look at NetGear routers. I have a netgear firewall router, and have never had any problems with it. I have used it for more than 10 years, and it is still working perfectly.
