It depends. In the majority of cases a straight through cable will work fine. But if the downstream switch has no up-link port or it doesn't have auto sensing on the ports then you will need a crossover cable.

The chances of having a switch without an uplink-port or auto sensing is slim but is a possibility to consider if a straight through cable doesn't work.
