November 2, 2010 at 13:52:15
Specs: windows xp pro SP2
I have 3 pcs running xp pro, PC01,PC02 and PC03 running on a peer to peer network, workgroup name MAS. I have been trying to install some accounting software on the PCs with PC01 acting a database server.
If i ping PC01 from PC02 I get a weird set of IP addresses listed
The ip addresses should be
PC01 192.168.1.102
PC02 192.168.1.103
PC03 192.168.1.100
Any suggestions

Are you getting IPv6 addresses? Post the weird addresses.

The ip addresses given were 81.46.64.50
However I had a brainwave today and fixed the addresses of all 3 PC with Static IPs.
This seems to have sorted the problem but I don't know why it occurred in first place

Your dhcp server is misconfigured which is why you got what appears to be your wan ip address in the workstations.

You still have a problem that needs to be addressed.

You would logon to your router, go to the dhcp server page and review the entries. Remove the reference to 81.46.64.50 and put in the correct entry. Since we haven't seen a ipconfig /all from you I don't know which entry this was.
