map network drive is where you associate a drive letter like x: with a folder on a remote computer.

disconnect network drive is where you undo that assocation.

Why do you ask?

I have a friend who is using my computer hookup with his computer. We use the same cable modem. How can I be sure he isn't able to see what I am doing on my computer? I thought that is what is called networking which I have not studied though I would like to be able to access my parents computer with mine and be able to access my computer from their's (with permission of course).

that depends on your friends computer sophistication and how the hookup to the modem is made. Odds are you have nothing to worrry about.

Networking is pretty easy once you understand the physical connections and why. MS has included a networking wizard, which with the help of a usb stick, will get you and your parents pc up and talking in no time.

Google is your friend. Lots of online how to's including screen shots.
