Solved What causes router to slow down my wired and wireless speed?

August 29, 2016 at 08:27:36
Specs: Windows 7
HI

I am having trouble with internet when I connect through the Router by Ethernet or wireless. When I connect directly through the modem it works fine but when I connect through the router whether by ethernet or wireless it doesn't work properly and is very slow. I have a desktop connected by Ethernet through the router and a laptop connected wirelessly and both work the same way VERY SLOW and when connected directly to the modem both work at lightening speed.

What may be the problem?

HELP PLEASE!

Ok, you have the most recent firmware installed and nothing has changed on your end. The next step I would take would be reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure it and test. If it works fine, you're good to go. If it doesn't work properly then you need to contact the manufacturer's support line and have them run you through some troubleshooting with them.

Since the internet works perfectly when you connect your PC directly to the modem, this indicates that neither your ISP nor your PC/laptop is the problem so that leaves only the router.

What is the make/model of your router?

Without knowing the above, I would suggest you ensure it has the most recent firmware installed on it. I consider resetting it to factory defaults and reconfiguring it.

What, if anything, has changed in the last 3 days? Have you or someone else made changes to the router? To your LAN?

Do you have WPA2 active and passphrase set on the wireless settings of your router?
If your wireless is not secured everyone can just hook-up to your wireless and download movies etc.. on your expense.
