Specs: Linux
I have internet but no Wi-Fi. How can I hook up a Roku? I also have a router and a modem and a DSL. Can I do it through dial-up or the telephone?

What equipment is involved here; actual make and model of each item?

On the base of a router etc. there is usually a sticker showing the wfifi details - its SSID and default access key.

Do you see the wifi SSID in the list of available access points when you view them from a computer?

Wifi facility on a modem/router combined (generally the most common arrangement) is not usually enabled by design. The user has to go into router management area and enable it.

Often the isp provided router "may" have it enabled... but not always.

As you have dsl service, likely all you need to to do is enable the wifi facility on the router.

So as above, what makes and models are your router, modem?

ISP connects to modem > modem connects to router > router connects to Roku. Some Roku devices are wireless only, others have an ethernet port & wireless. You didn't provide enough info about your hardware.

EDIT: I saw that you have a 2nd post with more info: Roku Xs wireless hd media player (802.11b/g/ draft n, hdmi).

I'm still unsure of your problem? You MUST have internet to use the ROKU...either wireless or ethernet connection. If yours is an XS, it's a ROKU 2. I have the same model. Here's the instructions:
