Solved Watching movies from a NAS

Specs: Windows XP Pro, 1.6
What NAS can be connected to a tv using an HDMI cable to allow movies to be viewed.

I came across a QNAP TS-269L on and was wondering if there were any cheaper alternatives without having to buy multiple devices to perform the same feature of playing movies directly from the NAS.

Assuming you already have a PC you can use, a Roku 3's probably the cheapest/easiest way to go about this. You might need to buy the Plex app first, though.

If you have a PC with HDMI out and a valid network connection (presumably wireless), the cheapest way would be to invest in a wireless control setup, and use Microsoft's Media Center (Windows Vista or 7 only).

Sorry, I should have been more clear.

I was looking for something similar to the QNAP.

I was wondering if there was another device, as I am limited in space, to compare it to and not the cheapest way to be able to watch movies from hard drive.

Not sure exactly what you want. The QNAP appears to be a NAS with media decoding and HDMI. If that's what you're looking for and you're trying to avoid a HTPC setup the QNAP is probably the best option; you're in a pretty niche market. I don't have experience with the QNAP products, so just make sure it can handle your videos before you invest.
