VNC and Remote Desktop Questions

March 8, 2009 at 16:27:02
Specs: Windows XP
I want to be able to remote access my home computer from work for the primary purpose of using my home internet connection. Both are running XP.

I was using logmein free unfortunately, work now blocks it.

I installed tightvnc and it works. There is some delay in display rendering but otherwise it works fine.

My questions are:
1) For my purposes is ssh necessary. Will it make it more secure?

2) Are other alternatives such as Windows Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, or RealVNC or UltraVNC a better alternative?

Thanks

This smacks of somebody hoping to mess around while at work and view web sites they shouldn't be.

Here's some free advice ok.

First off, you don't own the computer/network/internet connection, your work does. So they have every right to tell you what you can, and can't do with it.

Second, you're being paid to work, not sit there and peruse porn, or whatever, during work hours.

Since they have restrictions in place, your trying to circumvent them is illegal. And, if they're like the place I work, they monitor for people just like you. So if you continue, you'll get caught.

My advice is, grow a brain, stop cheating and do your job. Or just quit and go find a job where they don't mind paying you to not work.

LOL

Ok son, listen closely.

What you're looking for is help on breaking actual laws.

Nobody here is going to help you break the law.

Oh and I said "son" because you're obviously not a man or an adult. Aging past 19 doesn't make you a man. Behaving in a mature responsible fashion does.

Personally, I hope you try to circumvent your companies security. Being fired, arrested, and charged with hacking might do you some good.

Of course, knowing your type, if that did happen, it wouldn't be your fault, it would be your ex bosses fault or the IT guys fault cause idiots like you never accept responsibility for themselves and spend all their time blaming others for their stupidity and mistakes.

Geeze CurtR, you try to keep the (blank) from being fired and you get insulted.

Tell him how to do it and let him get fired. Let a smarter person, more ethical person have his job.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
