Solved Virtual IP address issue

Specs: Server 2008, 1/4GB
I am just having an issue with adding a virtual ipaddress, this is the first time that i have done this and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

We have a web server which has a primary IP address assigned to the NIC eg:
We then added a second web application that needed a seperate internal ip address so
I added a virtual IP address to the same NIC.
However since doing this windows updates and NTP services have stopped working.
I think that is because there are no firewall rules setup to allow the virtual ip address to communicate with the WSUS and NTP servers.
To me it looks like the virtual ip address has taken over as the primary IP but i don't understand why.

Is there any command that i can run to set the primary IP address back to as i don't really don't want to add additional firewall for this virtual IP address.

When you have multiple IP adresses I'm not sure that you can specify which address will be used when making an outgoing connection (although individual applications may let you configure which address they will use).

Why is an additional firewall rule a problem? Surely it's a trivial change. You may want to take the opportunity to change the rule to cover a range of addresses in case you need to add futher IP addresses in future.

thanks ijack
the firewall rule change solved the issue,
i was just interested in what caused the issue and if i could change anything the server side to fix it before requesting a firewall change.
