Solved Validity of creating DNS A Host Records

July 18, 2016 at 11:53:15
Specs: Windows 7
A developer at my work has asked me to create an A record.

He has asked me to point an IP he has purchased which is from AWS to our company which would be stfp.mydomain.com. Is this possible from our external websites DNS?

I could understand if there is a function on the AWS side but he says it should be possible from our external website management GUI?

I wouldn't have thought this possible otherwise I could point any IP you our domain couldn't I?

Any help is appreciated.

His certainty has got me doubting myself.

Regards
JR

Yes. If you control the DNS server hosting that zone (mydomain.com) you can point hostnames to any IP address you like. Note that the relationship is this way round - you point names at dotted-quad addresses, not the other way round.
