Using a router to connect to the net

Specs: Windows 7
I have a cisco 870 router, if i have a internet connection can I use this to connect one pc to the net without using a modem?

Its intergrated component would need to match the service. In other words if it has a cable interface you can't use it with dsl.

A modem is always required because it's the device that converts the signal from cable to network (in the case of cable highspeed) or from a phone line to netrwork (in the case of ADSL)

thanks for the advice, wasn't sure whether I could get away without having a seperate modem
