USB ADSL Belkin driver cannot be installed

September 15, 2010 at 16:37:42
Specs: Windows XP SP2, Intel Pentium 4 2.6Ghz
Hi,

I recently installed the driver for my USB ADSL belkin modem. I had to reinstall it, so I first uninstalled the modem from Devise manager, and then I uninstalled the driver from add/remove programs. But when I tried installing the modem back again, the driver had loaded and tried installing until an error popped-up saying "Operating system is not able to install the driver". I'm not sure what the problem could possibly be. I was thinking perhaps there are multiple drivers installed in device manager. So I tried uninstalling all the devices that came under 'Network Adapters' There were several such as PPPoE and PPo...not sure what exactly these were. When I tried to uninstall them, a message kept saying "Failed to uninstall this device".

So now I've run out of ideas, and was hoping to get some help here.

OS: Windows XP SP2 (downgraded it from SP3)

I've also been having problems with the Windows Search Indexer, will a message pops up every so often saying "It has stopped working". I'm wondering if this could interfere with the driver.

Why did you abandon SP3?

Because I was told SP3 would create a conflict with the ADSL modem, not allowing the driver to be installed.

Who told you that & did you verify it? It doesn't sound right at all.
