Trying to connect my partners laptop

Specs: Windows XP
My friend has just got a laptop and when she is at my place it shows that my computer is nearby but message says `Windows was unable to find a certificate to log in to network ` . Can anyone help please.

That's one of many hits if you search the error message. Repeat the search if that answer doesn't help.

I did give it a try but for someone who is not computer savy it was a bit scary so I will probably give it a miss.

How do you connect to the internet? Were you trying to use both computers at the same time? Do you have a router?

I have a router ( Dlink or something like that) and I have a PC connected to internet. I also have my own laptop which i can use anywhere in the home but that was set up by a computer wiz that I get to call in and give my PC a health check up now and then. When I switch my friends laptop on I get that message that I mentioned in my question. Like I said in my reply to guapo I`m not real computer savy and if I get to some stage at times when I`m not sure what to do I chicken out rather than try and do something. Much appreciate your response to this anyhow.

Your computer whiz has probably set up security to prevent another computer from using the router to access the internet. Check with him first.
