toshiba satellite A 665 Can't turn wi-fi on

February 24, 2011 at 01:22:30
Specs: Windows 7, Intel i3, M370 @2.40GHz
I can't turn WI-FI on in my Toshiba A 665, Win 7. At the biginning worked good ,than vanished. Checking Fn > F8 below main icon (with an antena ) do not show up other four icons below, like they suppose to do. So I'm not even able to try to turn it on. Restarting doesn't do at all. Pushing Wi-fi switch, above the keybord, doesn't even show On/of icon. Couples days before everything was O.K. Is it hardware problem ?

Unfortunately, I don't have much to add other than I have the same model and the exact same problem. The only thing related I've found so far is this Toshiba technical bulletin ( http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/... ). Pushing the Wireless button does not result in any screen message on mine and the process does not turn on the wireless adapter. I notice it's been a couple of weeks since you posted your original entry--any luck resolving the problem yet?

Hello all, I contacted Technical Support and the end resolution was to uninstall the Toshiba Value Added Package and then reinstall it. I no longer have the laptop here to verify the path to the installation directory. But a Google search may do it.

Satellite A660-18N - Solution for disabled WLAN switch
Posted: 13-Apr-2011 15:31
I have at last solved this annoying issue, my laptop is a Satellite A660-18N

Out of the box it just would not connect to wireless networking. With the Fn-F8 key combination reporting: "Wireless communitcation is disabled, please turn on the wireless communication switch"

Of course there is no such switch, just the FN-F8 Combination key press. Having tried various forums, and tech support, I solved the problem my self.

The solution is:
Go to the folder on your c drive "Program files\Toshiba\TBS. Then scroll down the list of program files and double click on the file named TBSWireless.exe and hey presto, the wireless communication will turn on (Amber Light will come on on the front bottom right panel of the computer). From now on the FN-F8 Key combination will turn it on and of.

Bye all

Thank you SOOOOO much. This has been driving me nuts for months, and there seems to be a conflict with Win 7 and this bios since I cannot enable the illumination settings, and that seems to be why the button across the top don't work.
I put a shortcut to the TBSwireless execute on my desktop.

Thanks so much, I have had the same problem with my Toshiba A660. I think the switch goes off if the battery power gets low. There is a power control option to stop the wireless from turning off to conserve power. I have the "media bar" above the keyboard and the switch on it for the wireless usually does not work in Windows 7. If you run Ubuntu it works fine. I tried calling Toshiba once and their solution was to revert the computer back to original and wipe out everything on the hard drive!
