The Acer Netbook I just bought can't connect to the internet

May 26, 2012 at 09:13:46
Specs: Windows 7
I haven't done anything on the computer yet (got to have internet to do that...). The home internet is in the wireless connections icon at the bottom right of the screen, but when I try to connect, it says it's unable to. Would installing 4 gb of ram have a problem?

No, it wouldn't. How many bars does the computer show it has for your Wireless Connection? My laptop does the same thing when a Wi-Fi network has to weak a signal.

Do you have security encryption on your wireless router and have you entered the appropriate key in the new machine? Does your router also have MAC filtering engaged? Often when people try to connect new devices they overlook the security settings of the router.

It does have a password and its a 4 bar connection. I updated the drivers for it, generic Atheros ones, and it can connect now. Seemed like it was fixed until it was unable to connect again, after I restarted it. It's off and on with the "unable to connect message" even though the password is right and it has a strong signal...
