Swapping Computers on Server

Specs: Windows XP
I have purchased a new computer to replace one already connected to a server. How would I go about swapping out this computer so that the server recognizes it as an existing account and not a new user?

user accounts and computer accounts are not the same so no worries as far as being seen as a new user.

You don't specify what server OS or if you are running active directory.

If just peer to peer using xp, you will need to setup accounts and shares to match the old pc.

Are you running Active Directory? Just because you have 2003 doesn't mean you have AD

You will need to go into AD computers and remove the computer account [not the user account]. Then from the workstation add the computer to the domain.
