I can't host games on my PS3 unless I am directly connected to the modem. However, when I do that I have to disconnect the router which causes us to lose wireless and my dad isn't happy. I have tried opening ports on the router. Can I hook a hub or splitter between the modem and the router so that I can have direct connection to my PSIII. It will look like this. cable-modem-hub/splitter - one connction to router - another connection to PSIII
No, it wont work. If you connected through a hub both the router and the PSIII connected to the Modem would be trying to use the same IP address and that is not possible. It is not opening ports you need to do, it is forward ports to the PSIII. Forwarding ports usually opens ports at the same time but opening and forwarding are different things. Read the routers instructions again and make sure you are using the right ports.

You'll probably need to research exactly which port(s) to forward on your game console manufacturer's website. If forwarding doesn't work, see if you can't make a deal with your dad to get a second highspeed internet connection in your house. Maybe if you do extra chores he'll pay for it. Or, if you're old enough, get a part time job and pay for it yourself.
