Hello,

I have a question for you guys, I have a interent connection which is splited through a switch. Now, my switch has 4 ports but I have 5 PC's, do you know if one of the cables witch is connected in a switch port can split internet connection through a simple FTP splitter? Thank you very much!

Presumably there is a router somewhere in your setup.
A switch by itself cannot "split" a single internet connection.

If you connect direct from your Modem to your "Switch" to share internet then either your ISP is providing you with 4 IP addresses (Unlikely) or your modem or switch is a combo unit incorporating a router. In any event you can link in another switch downstream of the existing switch to expand your network.
That's how I have mine set up. Modem to Wireless Router(With 4 port switch included) then to an 8 port switch. I have 4 wired PCs, 2 wireless and a PVR/TV settop box in my network with room for 5 more wired devices.

ok, i understand, so I will have to buy another switch to split again the connection, I thoght that a simple FTP cable splitter will do the job.

You may be able to get away with a simple cable splitter but there would be some degradation of performance. The price of a switch won't be that much more than the splitter and the advantage is in future expansion.
