Speed problem in shared network

Specs: Windows XP
hey guyz, i am living in a hostel where me and some of my friends have shared internet connection using a wireless hub/router. I am facing internet speed problem because when some of them are using torrent at full speed, i am unable to use my skype properly.

so i am looking for some solution to this problem so that i might get enough speed to use internet uninterruptedly.

You have to read the routers manual and look for QoS (quality of service).
If the router supports such settings for the QoS, you can change the priority for services.
So if you don't use skype, the others can use the full speed, but if you're using skype, they may get e.g. only 50 percent of the bandwidth.

i am using the skype. . but i'm getting only a bite of speed out of whole dinner :-( i think their torrent have some kind of suction system sucking internet :-(

Torrents do open a lot of connections to many other torrent sources.
But that doesn't really matter because, if someone will download a CD or DVD iso file of e.g. Linux or a movie or whatever, the download will consume as much download speed as possible.
To avoid such things, QoS is the key.
