How do you find a persons IP address on facebook?
After stealing the pics, soomeone made a new profile with all her pics, and is putting rude & nasty comments, and other things on there. I've already contacted the Police, and Facebook, after almost a week Facebook finally took the profile off. I want to find out wheather this was a local jealous girl, or a stranger feeling the need to inpersonate my daughter.

The only way you are going to find out who it was is if Face book decide to tell you or if the Police consider is serious enough to get a court order to forces Facebook to reveal the identity of the perpetrator.

Even if you knew their IP address it would you any good as all you would get is their ISP. Then it would be up to the ISP to tell you who it was with, or the Police with a court order.

Or you could initiate a court action yourself but that will cost you money, loads of it.

Contact Facebook and let them know what's going on. Chances are, they'll kill that account and let whomever is doing it (likely someone your daughter knows and has pissed off......ex boyfriend, ex friend etc) to not do so again or they'll have their account(s) closed.

Unless the person responsible is liabling your daughter, there's not likely to be any "legal" recourse.

I am the captain of my soul.

Thanks for your responses..As I had mentioned in my previous post that Facebook did indeed take the bogus profile down, I had contacted Facebook with no results from that.

Stuart, Someone I know was trying to locate a person that they were corresponding with thru chat & email, he actually did locate the person thru email, and Google had giving a map of where the IP address was coming from.. I did ask him if he knew about Facebook, but he is not a user of the social network.

An IP address will only give you an approximate location of where the user is. It is basically the local office of your ISP.

How close you will get depends on the size of the ISP and the size of the country. You could get within a few miles or many hundreds of miles.

Anyone who claims to have located someone through an IP address without reference to their ISP is either very lucky or telling fibs.
