|Well the thing is its not about security problems its the wireless configuration that's giving this damn thing a problem. and this will help you fix it|
I had this modem from shaw couple of months ago and it works fine for my desktop, but at first my ps3 and cellphone wont connect to it, then I made some experiments but if you're going to try this better prepare an ethernet who knows if you messed up, but in my case nothing happened wrong, the first thing you should do is accessing the address and change the wireless mode to g/n mix, or you could try just n only, the reason is B and A were older wifi mode since there are a lot of new devices invented wordwide, and G is the common used in many devices and N is the latest of its technology, sure thing this really helps but you are still in a problem if you are unsure of what wifi enabled devices you have, so if connection goes bad again or your not detecting it, change the channel to any numbers, not sure which one is better but I do it frequently and yes its pain in the """
I did not call shaw cause I have no time arguing with them, they ask you and tell you the same thing over and over I hate customer service, but if you want to get the stable connection, just go buy a cheap good router or if you want too get the best one, or ask for recommendations, I recommend this method due to the fact that ethernet connection with this modem works better, so just turn off your wifi and set it up with a router you have, the thing is smc8014wn has some issues with wifi itself thats far as I know....
I hope that helps anyone dealing with this modem :)
