shared printer not recognized by autocad

June 18, 2010 at 08:21:28
Specs: Windows XP
I have tried to print with a shared printer which is in a LAN attached to another computer connected to the same LAN. I have been successfull to print to this shared printer when using notepad or microsoft office Word. Nonetheless, it seems that autocad does not recognize this network printer because altough it does shows up in the autocad's printers list, it quickly dissapears once you select it as the printer autocad should use to print your next job. At the same time, I have tested autocad with another shared printer which is connected to the same LAN through another computer, and in this last case autocad lets me select this last printer to print successfully.
Does any of you have any idea about why this might be happening?
The printer which is not recognized remotely by autocad but works successfully remotely with notepad and office Word, is a Cannon attached with USB cable to a computer with win xp pro sp3.

The printer which works successfully remotelly with autocad is HP instead of Canon and is attached physically to a computer with WIN XP PRO SP3 as well.

The computer using remotely both printers is has windows vista installed.
Any help is really appreciated.

Have you tried adding the printer to the Autodesk Plotter Manger?
It's been a long time but Autocad 14 used the Heidi Plotter
manager. There was an applet for it in the Control panel.

We had some luck using it. What version of Acad you running?

The autocad version is Autocad LT 2008.
Where can I find the "Autodesk Plotter Manger"?

When version 14 installed it put an applet in your control panel

Start-->Control Panel--> look for Autodesk Plotter Manager, or
something along those line.

I already checked that up, by doing what is said in

Moreover, I got an error when I tried to add the printer. I guess it might have to do with the fact that the printer is attached with usb to a computer with WIN XP PRO.
And the client computer using this shared printer has win vista, so the dirver used under win vista might be the problem.

What model printer is it and what version of Vista are you using?

May not be able to find drivers for Vista if the printer is way old.
