Specs: Windows Vista
Shared printer not printing. Have two PCs, one with Vista OS with the printer connected and the other XP, both connected via network sharing. I cannot print from the XP PC. It says I do not have permission even though I have shared the printer. Can somebody please advise how can I overcome this problem.?

did you do anything beyond sharing the printer?

next step is to point the printer in xp to the shared printer. you do this by creating a new port and giving it \\vistapcname\printersharename instead of a local port like usb or lpt.

on vista the share set to everyone with full control? should be.

make sure both units firewalls allow file and printer sharing starting with the vista box.

Hi,

During certain cases, you may have completed the physical integration perfectly. But still you may not be able to print anything. This can be due to the absence of a driver installed on your system. The problem can easily be averted, if you are installing the driver corresponding to the manufacturer. You can ensure that the version corresponds to the exact version of the printer series as well.
