If you are trying to connect the laptop to your wireless router using WPS option, that frequently doesn't work.

The best thing to do is to configure the wireless connection manually.

Find the name of your network (SSID) in the list of available networks on your laptop and click on it (may need double-click, can't remember).

You'll be prompted to enter the wireless key which is often printed on a sticker on the router, or get it from the router's configuration utility.

Enter that key exactly as it appears on the router (it's case-sensitive), then click "Connect".

And if phil's advice doesn't do it for you - i.e. you need a little more detail - post back with the make and model of your router (your wifi box as you call it).
