Server Teaming with onboard n/w con

Specs: Windows Server 2003
Hi

Im Kanag. I have a Dell Optiplex 755 desktop PC. The OS is Windows Server 2003 R2. The PC has Intel 82566DM Gigabit network connection (onboard). Im planning to put Intel PRO/1000 PT server adapter in
the PCIe-x1 slot.

Im looking for teaming between the Intel PRO/1000 PT server adapter & 82566DM
Gigabit network connection (onboard).

I just wanted to know the technical possibility of adding the 82566DM Gigabit network connection (onboard) in teaming mode. Is there is any other possibility for teaming with this onboard LAN
connection?

Expecting your valuable suggestion.

Regards,
Kanag

You should disable the onboard nic and get two of the intel cards. There is no guarentee you can team two different cards/manufacturers.

Don' t forget your switch has to support adapter teaming.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. The onboard card (LAN Connection) is also from Intel. Since Im already using two PCI slots for other Siemens network cards for other purpose, I have only PCIe-x16 & PCIe-x1 as a free slot. That is the reason for me choose 1 Intel PRO/1000 PT server adapter in the PCIe-x1 slot with the onboard Intel NIC.

I should have figured as much :-) It's always "no options now what do you?" do in IT.

The biggest issue is the software addressing the cards.

Both being intel and intel software should result in success.

I have done this in the past [awhile ago] and it worked fine. Each system is unique.

Let us know how it turns out and what your ran into. Always nice to get that feedback.

Best of luck!
