Securing jacks on small biz LAN from visiting laptops?

Specs: Windows 7
Besides MAC address filtering, is there another good / easier way to keep visiting laptops etc from plugging in a CAT cable and accessing a LAN protected by a perimeter firewall?

MAC filtering is for wireless. For wired connections you could give everyone a static IP address & disable DHCP. If your office is too large, that would be hard. I always preferred static IPs anyway.

mac filtering is also done on wired connections to the wifi router.

if wanting to filter on the lan its much better to use the dhcp server and ip reservations to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the lan. If their mac doesn't match a reservation they don't get a ip address.

This is great! Thanks for laying out the options.

Switch port authentication
or
LAN DHCP server / IP reservations

Further question:
If u don't have a switch capable of port authentication and want to use the IP reservation system, is the only way to keep people from unplugging a computer, noting its static IP address and then using that IP address for their own un-trusted computer accomplished by also setting up mac address restrictions?
