Search engines and captchas don't work?

April 3, 2012 at 13:39:10
Specs: Windows Vista
Okay, I can't open popular search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) and 'captcha' things don't show up. The websites simply don't open and say "Connection timed out", though it didn't. Whenever I try to sign up for a website, I need to type in the 'captcha', but the picture doesn't show up. I've tried everything I know. Oh, and to top it all off, the computer freezes, like, five times every ten minutes!! If it changes anything, I've had this issue before and I use the newest version of Mozilla Firefox. PLEASE HELP.

I would suggest you look at your event viewer logs to determine why you are hanging.

You have done the regular things like...
run chkdsk /f on the volume
run disk cleanup with everything checked
run disk defrag
update and run your antivirus antimalware softwares

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

Also try to start Firefox in safemode.
Therefore click Start /Run / Browse, navigate to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and select firefox.exe.
Back in the Run dialog box, add a whitespace and dash (-) safemode, so that it looks like this:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -safemode

This command makes sure, that Firefox starts without any addon and plugin.

Keep us posted.
