RRAS drops server from network

Specs: Windows 2000, 1.3ghz/2gb
I have an annoying problem. I am trying to set up Routing and Remote Access to handle incoming VPN connections. (It used to work before I rebuilt my server) Each time I turn the RRAS service on, the server drops off the network. IP traffic to and from that server is blocked. I have to physically stop the RRAS service to bring things back to normal. If I re-enable the service, server drops off again. I have two NICs on the server, one attached to the internal network switch and one attached directly to the DSL router. It occurs even with the external NIC unplugged from the DSL line. Clearly RRAS is running some kind of interference with the existing routing setup, but I don't see where to go in and correct this. Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated

I would start by checking in your Event Viewer. What, if any, error messages are you showing in there?
