Router Upgrade

D-link / N

Specs: Windows Vista
I am looking to upgrade my router. I currently have a D-Link MIMO model 634. It works fine but I recently added Directv's video on demand and it seems to be bogging down my router & laptop efficiency. Thought that a new router might help.

Looking at the D-Link or Linksys N series. Should I spend the extra money to get the N++. Does it buy me enough functionality? Do you have a recommendation on brand? (I am using a linksys gaming adapter as my link to Directv's Video on demand if that matters)

Thanks - Karen

Already checked for new firmware for your router.
In most cases, the firmware is the problem.

Wireless N or N++ will not solve your problem.

Check it out by connecting a pc or laptop by wire.
Will this solve your problem?

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

I checked on the firmware. I currently have the most updated firmware installed. The latest version listed is 2.01 (which is what I have). The date of this version is 1/10/06 - does that seem strange that it would not have been updated since then?

Do they modify the firmware but not apply a different version number? Just wondering if there is an update beyond 2006...

The firmware version number changes on every firmware update.
Possibly, on small changes in the firmware, the number changes from e.g. 2.00 to 2.01, but it gets changed.

As I mentioned above, try the laptop connected by wire to check out, whether it's a wireless problem or not.
